Competition and Camaraderie at the 2016 Diversify Sportsfest

For most people, Sundays often mean a day of rest in preparation for the upcoming work week. For Diversify last November 20th, it was a different kind of Sunday as our annual Sportsfest went underway.

Held at the British School Manila (BSM) in Taguig, the event was attended by staff from both Makati and BGC who were looking to both show-off their competitive spirit and to also have fun as well.

Some sights and sounds from the Sunday sportsfest

Everybody dance now!

Despite an early call time of 7:00 am for registration (and on a Sunday no less!), participants and spectators alike from our two offices were out in full force and eager to get things started. As a prelude to the event, a special dance session for everyone presented started the day off. It was a unique but effective warm up that set the bar for the day ahead. After a morning prayer, some opening remarks from our organisers and the taking of the oath of sportsmanship, it was time for the games to begin.

Ball is life

Up first was the volleyball game that ended up being incredibly competitive. Slated as a first-to-three sets game, both teams pushed each other to their limits that it took all five sets before a winner was decided. It was an exciting back and forth game, and in the end, the Diversify Blue Team took the final set.

Ready for action!

Afterwards, players and spectators moved to a different area of BSM’s gymnasium to watch the basketball game. As one of the most popular sports in the Philippines, Diversify has no shortage of passionate basketball fans and players who had long talked about playing (or even just watching) this highly anticipated game, even weeks before Sportsfest! Much like the volleyball game before it, everyone played with heart, and you could clearly see everyone was having a good time on and off the court. With a final score of 69-63 favouring the Blue Team as well, it was a close game that certainly delivered and maybe even exceeded people’s expectations.

While this was all going on, badminton nets were set up for anyone who wanted to play with friends or even just give it a try. Even if there were no prizes or medals to be awarded for this event, everyone that participated in the game showed that it was more about having fun and enjoying this event with their Diversify family.

Everything is better with friends

Medals and prizes were handed out to the winners just before the Sportsfest’s closing ceremonies. Despite not seeing each other on a regular basis, it was wonderful to see the teams that participated were comprised of different staff members from both offices. It was awesome to see the camaraderie shown by everyone who participated. Although some left without medals, it was not about winning; it was about being together and having fun in a team environment.

In her opening remarks, our People and Culture Manager Diana emphasised seeing the Sportsfest as a way of unwinding from our usual work routine. It presented us opportunities to not only learn more about the people from the other office but to also inspire others while also being inspired by them.

Indeed, whether you were there to play or to cheer friends on, everyone felt like a winner, and there were no real losers that emerged when it was all over. Even if it meant coming in on a day off, the enthusiasm and eagerness displayed by the Diversify staff was truly inspiring, with anticipation for next year’s Sportsfest already building up. With new ideas being formed and the prospect of new faces being present for it, the 2017 Diversify Sportsfest couldn’t come soon enough.

Halloween Happiness at Diversify

It was day full of spooky surprises as the Diversify offices underwent a slight transformation last Friday. The Halloween spirit was in full force in both our Makati and BGC offices last week as the staff took some time to dress up both their workstations and themselves for the occasion.

Fun and Games Galore

Like we did last year, an overall theme was decided on for the competition and would have to be followed by each of our teams. With last year’s Carnival theme in the books, this year Diversify celebrated some favourites in television, movies and fantasy. To get things started, it was decided that our Makati and BGC offices would adopt a Hogwarts theme for the offices’ general area. Whether it was in Makati or BGC, this meant there were posters, House symbols, Golden Snitches, Sorting Hats and Invisibility Cloaks all around the Diversify offices. Some of the movies and television shows represented were Star Wars, Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, Pan’s Labyrinth, Alice in Wonderland and Stranger Things. Even Shake Rattle and Roll, a popular horror movie anthology that has been a staple of Philippine cinema for more than 30 years, was represented by one of our teams. To go with these themes, the staff also dressed up to match their respective set, with a representative briefly explaining why they chose that particular theme.

It wasn’t just about candy and costumes though as there were also some surprises that made both Halloween parties extra special. Taking inspiration from escape rooms like Mystery Manila, the Diversify management team presented everyone with the “Guess The Murderer” game. Based on a short story given by a host, three teams would be provided clues in the form of puzzles that they would need to solve in an effort to determine who the culprit is. Clues were hidden all over selected areas of Diversify’s offices and would needed to be solved on the spot to determine where the next clue could be found. The team that finished fasted would be declared the winner. It certainly was a different but timely game that is often not present during Halloween parties. As an added bonus, teams got to also explore Diversify’s offices a little more!

Your Spooky Self

To say that that some of our teams went “all out” this year would be underselling just how much effort was put into making this year’s Halloween party so much fun. In our Makati office, there was an eclectic mix of fantasy and science fiction as Star Wars and Chronicles of Narnia themes adorned two stations. Both teams showed off their creativity and ingenuity by having Aslan from Narnia be represented by one of Diversify’s employees, while R2-D2 was created from a rubbish bin! Perhaps the most talked about set was the Alice in Wonderland station, which boasted a full set design of giant mushrooms, playing cards and signs directing you to where tea with the Mad Hatter (who was also present) would be.

Meanwhile, over at the BGC office, the Willy Wonka set was an assortment of bright coloured balloons and different candies scattered all over. Music was also continuously on loop as Wonka herself welcomed guests and judges to her “factory.” The team behind Stranger Things stayed true to Halloween’s horror roots by making use of familiar elements of the popular show, from the music of the 80s to the Christmas lights strewn all over the wall with an alphabet. The team also recreated the show’s main antagonist –the Demogorgon – that also growled whenever someone would approach it.

Needless to say, our judges had a hard time choosing which themes and costumes stood out from the rest.

In the end however, there had to be winners from each side and one overall best theme. It was clear that the team behind Alice in Wonderland put in plenty of thought, time and effort into creating their stations and they took home first place. Second place was a tie between two other sets in our Makati office: Star Wars and Pan’s Labyrinth, another movie popular for its strange and fantasy motifs. The Narnia set took third place and was also tied with the Stranger Things set. Individual costume awards were also awarded to each of the offices. Rolly Castro, who dressed up as the Mad Hatter, took first place for the Makati office while Quina Halbi’s interpretation of Willy Wonka made her the best dressed in our BGC office.

Diversify certainly has a reputation for throwing some pretty memorable celebrations, and the 2016 Halloween party was a definite addition to that list. Everyone at both Makati and BGC contributed considerable time and effort to make sure it was a great way to cap off their work week, with memories of the day still echoing in them as this piece goes up. Indeed, none of it would have been possible with the staff – whether they were from management or newly hired ones – coming together for an afternoon of candies, scares and laughs.

Diversify unveils new logo, location with launch event

On Friday July 29th, we celebrated the opening of our brand new office space, the launch of our new Diversify website and the rebranding of the company as a premiere offshoring service provider in the Philippines.

Located in the new 24/7 McKinley Building within the rapidly developing Bonifacio Global City, the new office space redefines the concept of the traditional offshoring facility.

The new fit-out has been designed to be welcoming, foster innovation and collaboration and build a culture that drives performance.

Ultimately, the new facility has been shaped as a place our people are proud to work at and underpins our commitment to giving you access to this workforce of the future; your extended global workforce based in the Philippines.

To commemorate the launch of both our new brand and the new facility we held a party in the rooftop space of our new building. With some of our valued clients, partners and a huge number of employees in attendance, we wanted to make sure we marked the moment.

To kick off the celebrations clients and business partners were taken on a tour of the new facility before being taken to the rooftop area to celebrate with the rest of the Diversify team.

During the event, we reflected on the successes of the past year – a new brand & website, our second facility and continued growth. None of it would be possible without our dedicated staff and clients and we shared our thanks with them. It was a wonderful night of food, laughter and entertainment where we were even treated to an incredible performance by one of our very own team members.

The evening was also an opportunity to give everyone a first look at our new corporate video. Check it out here!

We also had a film crew in attendance, and in the coming days, we’ll share some of the great footage and photos from the event.

Christmas 2015 at Diversify

It has been a fast paced end to the year at Diversify! Since coming on board a few months ago I have quickly become a part of the Diversify family. In my last piece I discussed the importance of enjoying what you do for a living; after all, you do spend 60% of your life at work! One of things that struck me in my new role with Diversify was the time and effort placed on ensuring that we all look forward to coming to the office each day.

Staying connected and engaged both with our clients as well as our colleagues are key factors in delivering the highest quality customer service, whilst building a collaborative, creative, productive and enjoyable environment. In order to foster this working environment, the team at Diversify hosts a number of key staff events throughout the year. The first of these I attended was the Halloween party which was awesome (check out my account of this event here). The bar was set so high at the Halloween event that all of us could not wait for the Christmas party, which was promising to be an even grander affair!

A memorable evening for Diversify

Two words come to mind when describing the 2015 Diversify End of year Party: absolutely incredible! The theme for the evening was GLOW. Walking into the venue we were immediately struck by the black light and neon glow of the Century City Mall Events place. The scene was set for an evening of bright neon lights and glow in the dark clothing and accessories. Before we settled into a night of partying and celebration, Angela Vidler, CEO of Diversify, provided a quick speech thanking all of the Diversify family’s efforts and commending us all on the exceptional work delivered to our valued clients throughout the year. Of note was the reference to how the business could not have grown so significantly without the efforts of every team member! This was an event to thank us for another great year and to motivate us all for the year ahead.

Once the formal part of the evening was completed we were privileged to witness an upbeat and entertaining glow in the dark dance special performed by the operations team. I must say that it was hilarious to see our support team dancing in their glow in the dark outfits. Once we had stopped laughing and cheering the entire team settled into a buffet dinner and a few drinks waiting in anticipation for the Glow Dance Contest. The content comprised of three teams dancing off for a chance to win 25,000PHP.

The teams all adopted unique styles of dance which are too hilarious to describe!

For all the staff members that weren’t involved in the dance competition, there was still an opportunity to win in the raffle (with some great prizes). The prizes included; a 50 inch TV; an Acer Touchscreen laptop; and a Playstation 4.

It was a great evening that really rewarded us all for a great year’s work. Being able to celebrate with my fellow team members in such a great environment really is a testament to the amount of time and effort that Diversify places on ensuring that we all truly enjoy being part of the family.

We look forward to continuing to deliver the highest quality outcomes to our clients in 2016 and thank you all for the opportunity to work together.
